Tassos Giannitsis

Former Foreign Minister of Greece; Chairman, Hellenic Petroleum, Athens

Tassos Giannitsis born 1944, is professor of Development and International Economics at the Department of Economics, University of Athens. He was Chief Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister (1994-2000) and he served as Minister of Labour and Social Affairs (2000-01), Alternate Foreign Minister (2001-2004) and Foreign Minister (Feb.-March 2004). In December 2009 he was appointed as Chairman of the Hellenic Petroleum Co. S.A.

He studied Law (1962-67) and Economic & Political Sciences (1967-69) at the University of Athens and obtained his PhD in economics at the Free University of Berlin (1969-74).

Tassos Giannitsis is author of numerous scientific publications on industrial issues, international integration, foreign policy issues, specialization and competitiveness, foreign investment, social policy, technology-innovation policy and on Greek economic policy issues. He also has published numerous articles on current issues in newspapers and journals.
