Ambassador of Romania to Belgium, Brussels
Ovidiu Dranga was born in Bucharest, Romania, on June 5, 1966. He graduated from the Bucharest Polytechnic Institute in 1990. After one year as a journalist at “LUMEA” foreign affairs weekly, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on November 1991, as diplomat in the Policy Planning Department. His professional life included various assignments at home and abroad. Between 1996 and 2000, Ovidiu Dranga served at the Mission of Romania to NATO, last year as Deputy Head of Mission. Upon return, he was appointed director of the MFA NATO Department and in 2001 he was transferred to the Ministry of Defense as Deputy Secretary of State for Defense Policy and Euro-Atlantic Integration. From 2005 to 2007, Dranga has been Director General for Political Affairs (Political Director) in the MFA. In 2008, he was appointed ambassador of Romania to Belgium. He holds a Master in Public Administration (MPA) at Harvard’s JFK School of Government and is a PhD candidate at the National School for Public Administration in Bucharest. Ovidiu Dranga is a “George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies” alumnus and authored more than 50 articles on security matters, European affairs and international relations. He is married and has a son.
